Dave Speaks | Support Your Local Bookstores

Want to order a book but NOT from Amazon?

Here's how you can support your local bookstores and business! There are a TON of independent bookstores in Brooklyn where you can pick up your next summer read. So many hidden literary gems abound and some even have a coffee bar — doing both things you like all while supporting a local business.

Mil Mundos, 323 Linden Street

This bilingual bookstore was opened in 2019 and was founded /co-owned by Cuban American and New York City Native Maria Herron. Not only is it a book store, but it also offers Spanish lessons and mutual aid events for the neighborhood.
During the pandemic, it had volunteers and staff to address the needs of the community by distributing food and supplies to hundreds of families.
Consider buying a book and supporting your local businesses while you're at it! Win-win for everyone.

Human Relations, 1067 Flushing Ave.

This bookstore will catch your eye because of its white awning adorned with the word "book" in various languages or symbols on the windows.

Human relations describes itself as a "joint venture of some hopeful, fresh-faced youth and the jaded, scowling he-crones of Williamsburg's Book Thug Nation."

With a wide range of political literature and philosophy, shelves stuffed with books, and friendly staff, this shop is sure to make anyone feel right at home.

Molasses Books, 770 Hart St.

A workspace and a bookstore all in one. Molasses Books has been a community staple in the neighborhood! The bookstore has served the neighborhood with its own poetry books, zines, and small collections of novels.
There's indoor and bar seating for those who want to enjoy coffee or a wine with a book. This summer, they are opened till "at least midnight" on Fridays and Saturdays.
