Dave's Picks | How Can We Prevent Newspaper Deliveries From Being Stolen?

Despite a decline in print subscriptions, newspapers are still a hot frequent item getting plucked from unsecured building vestibules.

In a building without a doorman, delivery services need access to a building's locked inner door or storage room. Without the cooperation of building management, the delivery person has no option but to dump the papers in a spot where anyone can grab them. Yes, that means in front of your building. An issue so small like this one would be at the bottom list of a landlord's concerns.

  • You could always band together with neighbors and reach out to your building management to give a key to the delivery service.

  • Another suggestion might be asking your delivery service to ring your buzzer when the paper promptly arrives, that way you can go and get it immediately.

  • You could also ask a nearby bodega or deli to accept it on your behalf. The deli is generally a great cooperative because they will usually get more business from holding this newspaper.
